When to Refer:



These quick questions can help identify patients who may benefit from physiotherapy. If you find yourself answering 'yes' to two or more of the following, it might be time to consider an early referral to EBR Physio. Early intervention can significantly reduce the risk of chronic issues and speed up recovery.

As you know headaches have a plethora of aetiologies. Even if the original headache has a systemic cause physiotherapy is a very useful adjunct for cervical and TMJ treatment.

Understanding When to Refer

At EBR Physio, we believe in providing the best care possible. Here’s a quick guide to help you identify when to refer patients for specific conditions.
  • Lower Back Pain - remove

    ✅ Refer when: movement-dependent pain, likely mechanical, no neurological red flags.

    ⚠️ Review if: night pain, bowel/bladder symptoms, or worsening neurology.

  • Shoulder Pain - remove

    ✅ Refer when: gradual onset, impingement signs, postural or rotator cuff issues.

    ⚠️ Review if: suspected tear, instability, or frozen shoulder pattern.

  • Headaches - see above

    ✅ Refer when: cervicogenic in nature, posture or stress-related.

    ⚠️ Review if: sudden onset, visual changes, or systemic symptoms.

  • Sporting Injuries - see above

    ✅ Refer when: acute injuries, overuse issues, or return-to-play support is needed.

    We provide: sport-specific rehab and injury prevention planning.

  • Cancer Patients

    ✅ Refer when: the patient needs help managing fatigue, stiffness or strength.

    We provide: gentle, evidence-informed movement programs and support during or after treatment.

  • Pre-hab

    ✅ Refer when: surgery is scheduled and the patient could benefit from pre-operative strength training.

    We help prepare patients for surgery to ensure a smoother recovery.
